Summary:A seismological analysis of the Messina-Reggio earthquak of Dec 28, 1909 is presented. According to interpretations based on seismic profiling (I. Finetti, personal communication) and the nature of the differential motion between the African and Tyrrhenian plates may exclude the normal-fault model. Research is still on-going to unravel the nature of the fault mechanism.
