Description
Summary:This paper describes the approach adopted to simulate the behaviour of a high-speed craft with a high percentage of dynamic support and a very rapidly varying displacement, achieved by very rapid ballasting—deballasting during normal operation. The aim of the simulation is to represent the dynamic behaviour of the vessel during transient conditions (acceleration, deceleration, etc.) as well as during steady state conditions (constant-speed navigation). An important aspect of the work is the treatment of the variable mass of the vessel. A formulation of the equations of motion developed by the present authors, which explicitly account for the variable mass, has been used.
