Summary: | Theoretical and experimental aspects of the effect of long-range action in materials of different nature upon ion irradiation are considered. The totality of facts indicates the importance of irradiation-induced collective processes in solids. As was experimentally shown, the irradiation-induced strengthening in different materials extends to depths that exceed those predicted theoretically by several orders of magnitude. In addition, this paper presents the results obtained in the course of study of near-surface structure where the irradiation-induced white (low-etchable) layers were found. These observations unambiguously indicate the effect of long-range action.[PUBLICATION ABSTRACT] |
