Summary:Si(NHC^sub 6^H^sub 4^F-o)^sub 4^ · 3TiCl^sub 4^ (1) has been obtained from the disproportionation of (CF^sub 3^CH^sub 2^O)^sub 3^SiNHC^sub 6^H^sub 4^F-o and TiCl^sub 4^ in petroleum ether (40-60 °C) at -10 °C. The analytical (elemental analysis, molar conductance) and spectral (i.r., ^sup 1^H- and ^sup 19^F-n.m.r.) data suggested that (1) behaves as [Si(NHC^sub 6^H^sub 4^F-o)^sub 4^ · Ti^sub 2^Cl^sub 7^]^sup +^ [TiCl^sub 5^]^sup -^. The presence of these ions has been confirmed by characterising the products of metathetical reactions of (1) with R^sub 4^NX (R = Bu and Et; X = I and Br) and with AgNO^sub 3^. The data suggest the presence of a new titanium cation [Ti^sub 2^Cl^sub 7^]^sup +^.[PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
