Summary: | An abstract of a study by Lamp et al identifying steps involved in developing a program to increase utilization of regionally-grown fruits and vegetables in a Women, Infants and Children (WIC) population is presented. Accordingly, in 2009, the federal Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for WIC began distributing cash-value vouchers to low-income women and children to increase fruit and vegetable consumption. To realized the full benefits of this policy change may require programs that improve access to and utilization of a wide variety of produce items in low-income communities. |
