Description
Summary:An abstract of a study by Forrester et al examining the key components of Community Food Relief Model is presented. The model describes the processes and stakeholders involved in enhancing food relief among communities experiencing catastrophic events. The model was developed to increase production of locally grown fruits and vegetables among orphanages and communities in Haiti, with the goal of increasing fruit and vegetable consumption among disadvantaged Haitian children in various localities. Community needs assessment, community engagement, nutrition education, training, partnerships, entrepreneurship, marketing and outcome assessments conducted in a culturally appropriate manner are key components of the model.
