Description
Summary:An abstract of a study by McAllaster et al exploring the demographic household purchasing habits from a sample of a market basket database of consumer purchases is presented. This study suggests that a higher proportion of African American and Hispanic households purchased grains, vegetables, and discretionary caloric items compared to Caucasian households. On average, African American, Hispanic, and Caucasian households purchased as many discretionary calorie items as vegetables. Outcomes suggest a continued need for education and intervention among all three ethnicities regarding purchasing food items for a balanced diet.
