Summary: | Extensive efforts have been made for the past 50 years to find ways of identifying youth, at a time in their lives when effective intervention is still possible, who are in danger of running afoul of the law. Concurrently, during the current article's original print date, studies in the analysis of Markov processes have been increasingly applied to social phenomena. Recently, there has been some interest in the application of Stochastic models to problems in crime control. Markov chains of all types have in common the property that their measurements are categorical in nature; hence their choice for the work presented here.
