Summary: | The occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the creation of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) in the Office of Management and Budget (0MB) provides an opportunity to evaluate what people have learned from three decades of executive oversight of agency decisionmaking and explores what challenges lie ahead. Here, Dudley offers general observations augmented by her personal experience, both from the perspective of a career OIRA staff economist from December 1984 to May 1989 and as the Administrator of the Office from April 2007 to January 2009. Among other things, she hopes that OIRA will continue its oversight role and acquire new tools and resources for holding regulations accountable to the American people over the next thirty years. |
