Description
Summary:The results provided direct evidence in support of the concept that formation of a biofilm may confer resistance to transient spikes in the bulk solution concentration of toxic metal species by retarding metal diffusion and reducing the metal exposure of cells within the biofilm. (2007) looked at the role of the nitratereducing, sulfide oxidizing bacteria (SOB) in the nitrate mediated inhibition of sulfide net production by anaerobic wastewater biofilms in two experimental bioreactors, continuously fed with the primary effluent of a wastewater treatment plant, one used as control and the other one supplemented with nitrate. Other Fixed Film Systems Investigation on effect of flow velocity on the biofilm community succession in stream ecosystem revealed that there was a shift from a predominantly physical control to coupled biophysical controls on bacterial community succession in stream biofilms (Besemer et al., 2007).
