Summary:Regeneration of tissues and organs is now within the technological reach of modern medicine. With such advancements, substantial improvements to existing standards-of-care are very real possibilities. This review will focus on regenerative medicine approaches to treating specific maladies of the bladder and kidney, including the biological basis of regeneration and the history of regenerative medicine in the urinary system. Current clinical management approaches will be presented within the context of future directions including cell-based regenerative therapies.
