Summary:Considering the religious and political contexts of the time described by Andrew Marvell's poem "Bermudas," it seems difficult to resist the view that the word "Orange" reminded the contemporary reader of the Orange dynasty of the Netherlands, and that this association must have given the Puritans' statement, and the poem as a whole, an ironic ring.
