Summary: | Political legitimacy is an essential feature of contemporary statehood in the Islamic Republic of Sudan, given its stormy history since 1983 and the subsequent takeover by Dr. Hasan Turabi's National Islamic Front. Now, however, religious and minority rights have been inextricably mixed, thus damaging the ruling elite's claim to legitimacy. This article explores this dilemma and the steps Sudan's government has taken to improve its image in Europe. |
