The tsar sent crafters to England and Holland to learn carpentry and interior design, but the results were not seen until Catherine II took power in the late 18th century. Among the top Russian cabinetmakers was Christian Meyer, who is known for his quantity of marquetry furniture. His techniques are examined through known examples of his work. |
