Summary:The aim of the present work was to study the dynamics of the expression of mitochondrial Mn-dependent superoxide dismutase (Mn-SOD) 3 and 24 h after one and three episodes of moderate hypoxia. Experiments were performed on 18 male Wistar rats using an immunocytochemical method. The effects of one and three episodes of hypoxia on Mn-SOD in different areas of the hippocampus could be different or essentially similar. The dynamics of expression at four points (3 and 24 h after the first and 3 and 24 h after the third episode) were wavelike in nature, which may be important in relation to the development of tolerance induced by moderate hypoxia to subsequent more severe hypoxia.
