Summary:Kenneth Land, Raymond H. C. Teske, Jr., and Hui Zheng's article is an intereting addition to the scholarly research that has examined the possible deterrent effects of the death penalty. Although most of the nation's top criminologists believe that the published research has shown that the death penalty is not and never has been a superior deterrent to criminal homicide than alternative sentences of ling confinement, the scholarly debate is certain to continue.
