Summary: | The rich dynamics of magnetic materials subject to very short laser pulses is important for both information processing and recording technology. The characterization of these phenomena with nanoscale spatial resolution shines new light on our understanding of them. Graves et al report a major step in this direction by studying the dynamical behaviour of the spins in Gd24Fe66.5Co9.5, a metallic alloy with a magnetic structure consisting of two sublattices in which the spins align themselves in opposite directions with respect to an external magnetic field. |
