Knowledge, attitude and practice of promotion and prevention from the perspective of students of Dentistry of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi, Mexico

Oral diseases: caries and periodontitis currently have very high prevalence and major causes of tooth loss of organs. The philosophy of promotion and prevention in dental schools in the country is a priority strategy, the prevailing problem of caries. In this research, analyze the social representation of students of the Faculty of Dentistry. Was an applied semi-structured interview, sample selection was probabilistic, in the last three years of the course, assuming they are more involved and have greater knowledge of preventive philosophy. The selection was made randomly and was informed that their participation was free and all agreed. Regardless of sex, age. Was investigated: attitude, practice and knowledge of promotional and preventive aspects of dentistry. There's an attitude of acceptance toward promotion and prevention, but in practice relate to lack of time to carry it out, and have a practice on advocacy and prevention in most patients. Were obtained on cognitive responses and prevention techniques in the analysis made of the arguments, congruence were detected, establishing the qualification dissonances in the practice of patients. The representational field of prevention is associated with health as a necessity, but the conditions under which emergency patients arrive in most cases it is difficult to carry out, and there is dissonance in clinical activities performed on their patients, this the lack of systematic evidence of the promotion-prevention patients. The social representation of health promotion and prevention in dental students because they know that conflict is a priority, but have difficulty because it is a multi-stakeholder process and makes it feasible to conduct small, as long as limiting and practices is to fulfill the work requirements necessary to establish the subjects.
