Description
Summary:Interdisciplinarity has been established as an important action under the perspetive of thinking and developing health actions from a variety of knowledge and perspetives. Dental trauma is a major public health problem in our society, affecting a considerable portion of the population and causing irreparable dental loss. The incidence of dentofacial injuries is a common consequence in Interdisciplinarity. A study carried out in 2005 evidenced a lack of information among Physical Education undergraduates of the Universidade Estadual de Montes (Unimontes) regarding dentoalveolar traumas incurred during sports activities, what compromised the performance of this professional. Aiming at promoting a link between the Dentistry and Physical Education degree courses and at promoting an informative action on this issue, an interdisciplinary educational activity held by dental students has been implemented semiannually since 2005. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of this activity after five years of its implementation. Based on the results, the activity involving the Dentistry and Physical Education degree courses at Unimontes has proved to be effective, being able to add important information to Physical Education undergraduates on dental trauma, providing them with tools to have an assertive behavior when necessary.
