Description
Summary:The extraction of uranium(VI) and plutonium(IV) from oxalate-bearing waste solutions using solvent extraction and extraction chromatographic methods was investigated. Spectral characteristics of uranyl complexes extracted into 2-ethyl hexyl-2-ethyl hexyl phosphonic acid (PC88A) and adsorbed on solvent-impregnated resin were also studied. The resulting distribution data implied that both uranium and plutonium could be satisfactorily recovered from this type of solution. The study was useful in optimizing concentrations of PC88A, nitric acid and oxalic acid and temperature, with the result that more than 90 per cent of plutonium was recovered from large volumes of oxalate-bearing solutions.
