Summary: | The use of reciprocating plate contactors, with their high mixing intensities and contacting efficiencies, present a promising avenue for the achievement of high-rate biodegradation of wastewaters as well as for the oxidation of residual organics and disinfection of water. A program supported by the Saudi Arabian National Center for Science and Technology (SANCST) was therefore undertaken to evaluate the effect of operating and design parameters on the reactor's performance. Dynamic testing techniques were used to evaluate the rate of oxygen transfer, kinetics of biological metabolism as well as the overall volumetric rate of biodegradation. |
