Summary: | The roles of lignin peroxidase (Lip) and manganese peroxidase (MnP) in the removal of coloured compounds from olive mill wastewaters were investigated. Manganese(II) regulation was used to vary the levels of extracellular LiP and MnP produced by Phanerochaete chrysosporium. The influence of veratryl alcohol and the initial COD on the level of extracellular LiP and the rate of colour removal was also examined. The greatest colour removal was obtained at low initial COD levels combined with high levels of extracellular LiP. Veratryl alcohol had a positive effect on olive mill wastewater colour removal and LiP activity. There are 44 references. |
