Summary: | A flow injection hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometric system for dissolved arsenite was studied with respect to sensitivity, as indicated by pH and sodium tetrahydroborate concentration for several common buffers. Response characteristics were examined in the region where the reduction of arsenic(III) was not complete to determine the degree of interaction between pH and reductant levels and to ascertain the effects of different buffers. Response surfaces were obtained with an automated continuous-flow apparatus controlled by a computer system. An efficient experimental design based on continuous variations was employed.
