Description
Summary:The objective of this study is to develop a new method for determining the SSD condition of fine aggregates using AC impedance spectroscopy. This method is non-destructive, more effective and accurate than the traditional practice. Impedance and admittance of various fine aggregates with different moisture contents were measured within the frequency range between 1 Hz and 1 kHz. The results were examined and analyzed, and two linear correlations were observed. The first linear relationship is between complex resistivity and moisture content for fine aggregate when its moisture content is lower than its absorption capacity. The second linear relationship is between complex conductivity and moisture content for fine aggregate when its moisture content is higher than its absorption capacity. Therefore formulas can be generated for calculating the absorption capacity of a specific fine aggregate when the value of moisture content is given.
