Description
Summary:Zn and Zn-Co alloy coatings were electrodeposited on AISI 1018 steel specimens from weakly alkaline Glycine solutions by using direct current. The surface morphology, chemical composition and phase distribution of coatings were investigated using SEM, EDS and XRD. The results showed that increasing current density during deposition, increases cobalt content of the alloy coatings. It was also shown that increasing current density, up to 15 mA cm(-2), decreases the grain size and further increase in current density increases the grain size of the deposit. XRD results showed that Zn-Co alloy coatings with 1.95 and 3.34 wt.% Co are consisted of two phases ( eta and gamma ), but Zn-Co alloy coatings with lower cobalt content have single phase structure ( eta -phase).
