Description
Summary:In this investigation, the electrochemical degradation of various cast manufactured binary, ternary and quaternary magnesium alloys were studied in accordance with (ASTM G 102-89) and by immersion test (ASTM G 31-72) in simulated body fluid (SBF) and SBF with amino acids at 37 degree C. Hydrogen evolution from each alloy was measured under simulated body conditions and the concentration of metal ions in the medium after each corrosion test was determined by inductive coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS). The change in surface morphologies, composition and the microstructure of the alloys were observed before and after corrosion tests by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
