Description
Summary:ABSTRACT Achaeuspowelli is the seventh species of its genus to be recorded from West Africa. It is the first species to be taken within the Niger delta system. Among the more than 60 species of decapod crustaceans collected in the Niger delta by C. B. Powell (personal communication) of the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, is a series of a small Achaeus which represents an undescribed species. It is of interest inasmuch as it is the first species of the genus to be found in other than subtidal marine habitats off West Africa. The holotype of this new species has been deposited in the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie, Leiden, The Netherlands; paratypes are in that institution and the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington (USNM).
