An overview of lake neutralization experiments in Ontario

Powdered limestone was applied annually from 1981 to 2 lakes to increase whole-lake pH and alkalinity. Adding powdered limestone to spawning shoals of lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush) was also studied. Description
Summary:Powdered limestone was applied annually from 1981 to 2 lakes to increase whole-lake pH and alkalinity. Adding powdered limestone to spawning shoals of lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush) was also studied. Whole-lake neutralization appeared to be a promising technique for lake rehabilitation, but further studies were required on long-term effects and on possible re-acidification when liming ceased. Further studies were also required on the neutralization of trout spawning shoals.
