Summary: | The influence of cylinder and wire diameters, cylinder and wire composition, cell length, gas flow and gas transit time on the production of ozone by D.C. corona discharges in a wire-to-cylinder ozone generator were examined. The best wire composition was copper followed by Monel 400, Gilphy 80, NCR 600 and Gilphy 70 in decreasing orders of efficiency. The cylinder composition did not affect ozone production. For each polarity the length and diameter of the wire, the width of the discharge gap, and the length of time the gas was in contact with the discharge influenced ozone production. Improved production was obtained by placing cells in series. |
