Acute and chronic toxicities of arsenic(III) to fathead minnows, flagfish, daphnids, and an amphipod

In flow-through experiments, the 96-h LC50 or EC50 (loss of equilibrium) values for arsenic(III) in fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas), flagfish (Jordanella floridae) and an amphipod (Gammarus pseudolimnaeus) were 14,100, 144,000 and 874 ug per litre respectively. 96-h EC50 values (static concent...

Description
Summary:In flow-through experiments, the 96-h LC50 or EC50 (loss of equilibrium) values for arsenic(III) in fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas), flagfish (Jordanella floridae) and an amphipod (Gammarus pseudolimnaeus) were 14,100, 144,000 and 874 ug per litre respectively. 96-h EC50 values (static concentration renewal exposure) in Daphnia magna, with and without food, were 340 and 1500 ug per litre respectively. In chronic experiments (28-31 days), chronic limit ranges (highest tested exposure concentration having no adverse effect and the lowest tested exposure concentration having an adverse effect) for fathead minnows and flagfish were 2130-4300 and 2130-4120 ug per litre respectively based on body length and wet weight. Chronic limits for daphnids, based on survival, reproduction and body length, were 633-1320 ug per litre. Acute:chronic ratios for the test species ranged from 1.64 to 4.80.
