Time and temperature effects on the fracture toughness of rigid poly(vinylchloride) pipe materials
The fracture toughness of rigid poly(vinylchloride) pipe materials has been investigated over a range of temperatures and rates. Conditions are described for valid fracture toughness (KIC) tests and notch insensitive (ductile) behavior; time‐temperature effects on transitions in KIC are defined. The...

Summary: | The fracture toughness of rigid poly(vinylchloride) pipe materials has been investigated over a range of temperatures and rates. Conditions are described for valid fracture toughness (KIC) tests and notch insensitive (ductile) behavior; time‐temperature effects on transitions in KIC are defined. The modes of crack extension are characterized over a range of temperatures, and the mechanisms of crack resistance are discussed, including some quantitative data for the yielded zone at the crack tip. |
