Ranunculin: a toxic constituent of the poisonous range plant bur buttercup (Ceratocephalus testiculatus)

Toxic ranunculin has been isolated from bur buttercup (Ceratocephalus testiculatus ), a range plant poisonous to grazing sheep. Analyses of various growth stages of the plant revealved that the "early flower" stage contained the highest concentration of ranunculin.
