Distribution of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) in estuarine ecosystems. Testing the concept of equilibrium partitioning in the marine environment
Spatial and temporal trends in the PCB concentrations observed in Puget Sound, Wash., between 1973 and 1977, are presented. Distribution and accumulation characteristics are discussed in terms of the physico-chemical processes that control their flow through the ecosystem. The data suggest that in s...

Summary: | Spatial and temporal trends in the PCB concentrations observed in Puget Sound, Wash., between 1973 and 1977, are presented. Distribution and accumulation characteristics are discussed in terms of the physico-chemical processes that control their flow through the ecosystem. The data suggest that in sea water the uptake of PCB is largely governed by equilibrium partitioning of the chemical between suspended phases and water. |
