Description
Summary:The effects of temperature, hardness and pH value of water, and of ageing on the toxicity of the insecticide, mexacarbate, to a number of fish has been investigated. It is less toxic to eggs than to other life stages. Temperature and hardness did not affect its biological activity but it was 38 times more lethal to bluegill at pH 95 than at pH 75 . The breakdown, hydrolysis product 4-amino-3,5-xylenol was 70 times more lethal to bluegill than mexacarbate. However, the breakdown product is not a problem when the insecticide is used at recommended rates.
