DNA endoreplication and increase in number of chloroplasts during leaf differentiation in five monocotyledonous species with different 2C DNA contents
The occurrence and level of nuclear DNA endoreplication (Feulgen cytophotometry) were compared in mesophyll and bundle sheath cells during leaf differentiation of Muscari comosum (2C DNA-12.7 pg), All ium cepa (2C DNA-33.5 pg), Allium porrum (2C DNA-65.3 pg), from Liliaceae family, and Amaryllis bel...

Summary: | The occurrence and level of nuclear DNA endoreplication (Feulgen cytophotometry) were compared in mesophyll and bundle sheath cells during leaf differentiation of Muscari comosum (2C DNA-12.7 pg), All ium cepa (2C DNA-33.5 pg), Allium porrum (2C DNA-65.3 pg), from Liliaceae family, and Amaryllis belladonna (2C DNA-30.1 pg) and Clivia miniata (2C DNA-46.9 pg) from Amaryllidaceae family. In all the studied species, mesophyll nuclei contain 2C DNA, whereas bundle sheath cells in Liliaceae family replicate nuclear DNA up to 4C-16 C level, Amaryllidaceae family they remain at the 2C level. |
