Summary: | Studies in Hungary on treatment of antibiotic-containing sewage from a hospital, by biological filtration, showed that streptomycin at a concentration of 6-7 mg per litre, which is 6-8 times higher than that usually found in sewage from sanatoria, did not affect the performance of a percolating filter, but a concentration of 12 mg per litre reduced the efficiency of treatment. R is concluded that if discharges of antibiotics are controlled and the treatment plant is not overloaded, no difficulty should be experienced. |
