Description
Summary:The consumption of glucose by heterogeneous bacterial populations was studied under controlled condition in a laboratory in a batch reactor, in the presence of stream water and sewage in a batch reactor and in a natural but polluted stream. The kinetic expression derived from the concepts of the Monod Model were found to be applicable to all three situations. The effect of turbulence on bacterial substrate utilization was quantified using the overall transfer coefficient of oxygen as an independent parameter. The implications of the preceding on the interpretation of stream analysis data are considered.
