Summary: | Within the Roman provinces, moulds for casting irons have been found in many places but not in Italy, as far as the authors are aware. According to a survey published in 1994, the numbers of locations from which Roman coin moulds have been found were : Belgium 6, France 32, Great Britain 34, Germany 11, Luxembourg 2, Netherlands 1, Switzerland 1. Most of these moulds were used for casting forgeries of denarii and antoniniani of the second and third century AD; some examples of the alloys used for these types of cast forgery are described here.
