Steric course of N super(5),N super(10)-methylenetetrahydrofolate formation from glycine by the glycine cleavage system in E. coli
The steric course of the conversion of glycine to 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate (5,10-CH sub(2)-H sub(4)folate) by the glycine cleavage system in E. coli) has been elucidated. 2-H sub(re) of glycine is the precursor of 11-H sub(re) of 5,10-CH sub(2)-H sub(4)folate, and 2-H sub(si) of glycine is the...

Summary: | The steric course of the conversion of glycine to 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate (5,10-CH sub(2)-H sub(4)folate) by the glycine cleavage system in E. coli) has been elucidated. 2-H sub(re) of glycine is the precursor of 11-H sub(re) of 5,10-CH sub(2)-H sub(4)folate, and 2-H sub(si) of glycine is the precursor of 11-H sub(si) of 5,10-CH sub(2)-H sub(4)folate. The overall transformation is at least 78% stereospecific (possibly higher). |
