Description
Summary:Removal of mixed pesticides from drinking water system by photodegradation using suspended and immobilized titanium dioxide (TiO sub(2)) was investigated. Organochlorine pesticides were known to resist biodegradation and therefore could be concentrated through the food chain. Even when present in small quantities their variety, toxicity and persistence had an adverse effect on ecological systems. Leaching from agricultural fields was the single, most important non-point source of pollution to the aquatic environment. The results showed that the coated Pyrex glass tube could be reused effectively after regeneration. It was concluded that at low concentration of pesticide, both suspended and immobilized TiO sub(2) followed almost the same rate of degradation.
