Description
Summary:The sulphate yields for lakes in eastern Canada were compared with data on wet deposition, obtained from the Canadian Network for Sampling Precipitation (CANSAP) , and on dry deposition, obtained from the Air Pollution Network (APN) . Reasonably good agreement was obtained between the calculated and measured data, which showed that most of the sulphate in these lakes originated from atmospheric deposition and that there was little retention of sulphate in their catchment areas. Dry deposition was greatest near the centre of the continental pollution plume and was less important in remote areas. Possible sources of error in the approach used are indicated.
