Summary: | The growing dissatisfaction with both legislation and litigation as vehicles to pursue environmental objectives has LED to the search for new solutions to environmental conflicts. The office of environmental mediation at the Univ. of Washington in Seattle is pioneering an experimental approach using the negotiation-mediation process. The concept of mediating environmental disputes is analyzed. Based on limited use to date, mediation does appear to be a promising alternative to the adversary relationship. |
