Summary: | Aliquots of a sample of Hudson river water were analysed by isotope dilution to determine 'exchangeable' copper and lead. More than 60 per cent of the copper and lead was found to be associated with particles greater than 2 in size. The measured metal contents of unfiltered aliquots increased with time; the lead results were much more variable than the copper results, suggesting the presence of relatively large lead-rich particles in the water, possibly originating from atmospheric fallout of aerosols derived from motor exhaust. |
