Summary: | The Scientific Committee on problems of the environment (SCOPE), a constituent of the INT'l council of scientific unions, was established in 1969 in response to the same concerns that LED to the 1972 U.N. Stockholm conference on the Human Environment. The main tasks of scope are to advance knowledge about the influence of human activities on the environment and to serve as a nongovernmental source of advice on environmental problems. The structure of scope, interdisciplinary cooperation, and seven specific projects are described. |
