Summary:In 1982, interviews were conducted with 704 of 887 Thai women who had accepted NORPLANT subdermal implants in the preceding two years. The average duration of use was 10 months. The continuation rate among acceptors was estimated as 88 per 100 women at the end of a full year. The principal attraction of this method according to users was its long-acting effectiveness. The perceptions of Thai women about the implants' effects on their health, and husbands' reactions to the technique, are surveyed.
