Summary:This article summarizes a session of the "Hazardous Waste and Toxicology Workshop" given at the National Environmental Health Association meeting in New Orleans, 1982. The paper reviews the chemical characteristics of exogenous compounds and the physical-chemical changes in the receiving environment which must be examined to determine the fate of toxicants in the environment. A companion session in the workshop addressed the biological parameters which play a role in environmetal fate assessment and was reviewed in a separate article(1).
