Diagnostic dilemma in a returning traveler with fever

Abstract This case report of fever of unknown origin in a returning traveler from South America illustrates the need for a thorough understanding of limitations of laboratory testing modalities in order to prevent delays in diagnosis in potentially fatal but curable diseases.
