Radioactivity size distributions of ambient aerosols in Helsinki, Finland, during May 1986 after Chernobyl accident: preliminary report

Ambient radioactive aerosol size distribution measurements recorded during May 7-14, 1986, in Helsinki, Finland, following the April 1986 nuclear accident at Chernobyl, USSR, are analyzed. Radioactivity size distribitions were unimodal for iodine 131, ruthenium 103, tellurium 132, and cesium 137. Th...

Description
Summary:Ambient radioactive aerosol size distribution measurements recorded during May 7-14, 1986, in Helsinki, Finland, following the April 1986 nuclear accident at Chernobyl, USSR, are analyzed. Radioactivity size distribitions were unimodal for iodine 131, ruthenium 103, tellurium 132, and cesium 137. The geometric mean diameter of I 131 was in the 0.33-0.57 mu m range. Other isotopes had geometric mean diameters in the size range of 0.65-0.93 mu m.
