Summary: | Tabulated results are presented from laboratory experiments on the fate of 2 representative organic pollutants, phenanthrene (a polyaromatic hydrocarbon), and carbaryl (a pesticide), during composting of municipal sewage sludge with woodchips under various composting conditions. Phenanthrene was very persistent, while carbaryl was not persistent during composting. Possible mechanisms involved are discussed, and aspects on which further research is required are indicated. |
