Comparison of dislodgable and total residues of three pyrethroids applied to cotton in Arizona

Summary: | Cotton plants were sprayed with pyrethroid insecticides (flucythrinate, s-fenvalerate, and cyhalothrin) which are used to control tobaco budworms. Samples of leaves were taken from immediately after to 21 d after insecticide application. The samples were tested for dislodgable and total residues. One day after application 85-100% of dislodgable residues remained. By the third day they had dropped to 25-36% and by the fifth day to 20-24% of the initial deposit. Total residues remaining were greater than dislodgable residues. On the third day they were 37-46% and on the fifth day 34-41% of the initial deposit. An understanding of dislodgable residues and time since application may provide the basis for predicting total residue, but further study is needed to understand differences betwen individual insecticides. |
